Ben has a background in commercial law and an enthusiasm for business and best practice management. Admitted as a lawyer in NSW in 2003, Ben worked for a large national commercial firm in Sydney for several years in the area of commercial dispute resolution and litigation. He was responsible for the day to day conduct of a number of matters, including the:

• Defence of a $15 million contractual claim brought in the Federal Court of Australia regarding the sale of a well-known Australian wine brand and involving elements of trade practice law, breach of warranty and restraint of trade.
• Prosecution of a claim in the Federal Court of Australia alleging breaches of contract and trade practice law with regard to the purchase of a licensed hotel in East Sydney and seeking damages and the termination of a partnership agreement.
• Defenceof a $2 million property damage claim brought against the State RailAuthority of NSW in the Supreme Court of NSW alleging negligence withregard to the design and construction of a passive level crossing in regional NSW.
• Defence of a patent infringement claim in the Federal Court of Australia. The proceedings involved a veterinary pharmaceutical patent and required the preparation of detailed scientific evidence including statements from several overseas witnesses and the conduct of a number of overseas scientific experiments.

Ben left Sydney in 2006 to pursue an interest in human rights law as a volunteer on the Thailand-Burma border before continuing his professional career in the UK. In London, Ben joined the in-house legal team of Mercer Limited, a global human resource consulting firm, as a corporate counsel. At Mercer, Ben was closely involved in the development of new lines of business across Europe, the Middle East and Africa as well as providing advice relating to professional indemnity matters, particularly in the area of actuarial negligence.

Ben returned to Australia and joined Stacks/Business as CEO in August 2008. He has a passion for best practice systems and processes and is committed to establishing Stacks/Business as a genuine, cost effective alternative to the large metropolitan firms and supporting regional lawyers to develop specialist expertise.
